Feb 18, 2021

It has been reported that more people have died in January of 2021 than in any other month in the past 20 years in the State of Israel. This data was collected and released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

In the last month, 5,233 people were reported as deceased. A spokesperson for the CBS additionally reported that this data is not final. There is a slight possibility for an increase in the number of deaths recorded.

Amongst the total recorded dead up till now, 1,459 have lost their lives to the novel coronavirus. This is also the highest number recorded in a single month ever since the beginning of the pandemic.

The report looked specifically at January, all between the years 2000 and 2020. On average, 4,376.3 people died in this particular month every year. However, this year recorded the highest number of deaths, after January of 2017, when a total of 4,897 people lost their lives.

The latest statistics have revealed that seven percent more people have died in January of 2021 than in January of the year 2017.

The spokesperson further pointed that every year brings about a 2% increase in the population of the country. This growth has not been accounted for in the raw data provided by the CBS.

On the flip side, there is a lesser number of people who have lost their lives in the past month due to other ailments, such as auto accidents or the flu. This is likely because of the lockdown that was imposed by the government of Israel.

As of now, the State of Israel has recorded the total number of deaths minus coronavirus-related deaths at 3,774. However, this is not even the lowest number recorded in the past 20 years but, falls amongst the lowest.

According to the data published by CBS, the death rate amongst the Arab population in the country skyrocketed even more than that among the Jewish population. This number was recorded at 725 citizens in January of 2021 as compared to 533 people in the year 2020. The report also noted that a greater number of males had died as compared to the females in the country.

In January of 2021, more than 2,200 men have lost their lives as compared to the 2,015 in the year before. This has resulted in a difference of roughly 255 people. Meanwhile, 2,238 women took their last breaths in January of 2021, relative to 2,036 in the year 2020, with the difference coming out to 202.

Global data as well has shown a greater number of coronavirus-related deaths amongst men than in women. In addition, there were relatively lesser number of young people under the age of 30, who lost their lives, as compared to the years before. 92 passed away in January of 2021, whereas 138 died in the year before that.

On the other hand, there were many more people above the age of 60, who lost their lives this year. 4,721 died in January of 2021, whereas 3,837 were decreased in 2020.
