Feb 26, 2021

The people of the State of Israel, as well as the authorities are afraid that a new wave of infection of the coronavirus may be upon them. On Friday morning, the Coronavirus Knowledge and Information Center published a reported, informing the people of the rise in the reproduction rate, R. It is the number of people a sick person will infect and has reached 0.97. It was 0.93 just a day earlier.

The report stated that the declining trend in morbidity, which was previously a source of good news for the country, has almost halted. This is being attributed largely to the recently discovered British variant.

Around 5.6% of all the people who were tested for the virus, came up with a positive result. The center stated that this number is particularly high. As of now, there are 750 patients in the country who are in a critical condition, of which 238 have been intubated, according to the Health Ministry.

On Thursday, there were a total of 3,782 people who had contracted the novel coronavirus, as revealed by the Health Ministry. The death toll stood came up to more than 5,600 people. On the same day, two young men aged 26 and 24 lost their lives to the deadly disease.

The Clalit Health Services published their own report just a day before, in which they clarified that the British variant had further increased the chances of a person developing the coronavirus. To be exact, the chances have grown by 70%. Right now, the international data also shows the variant is somewhere between 35% to 70% more contagious than the other ones.

However, the Knowledge Center announced the possibility of a new variant just a couple of hours ago. According to it, the New York variant had been spreading rapidly in the past few weeks in the United States of America. It is believed to be linked to the reinfection of the disease.

The Knowledge Center also gave a handful of recommendations to take immediate action to ensure that this particular variant does not make its way into the country. These suggestions were given in light of the extensive ties shared by the City that Never Sleeps and Israel, itself.

The center further added that it is expecting an increase in the number of new cases in the country in the upcoming days. These predictions were made against the backdrop of the rising R and the recent education and economic reliefs granted by the authorities in the past few months.

On Friday morning, Yuli Edelstein, the Health Minister, also shared some statistics related to vaccination. He also reminded Israelis that Purim this year is full of mixed emotions, which includes concern and joy both.

He started off his statement by saying that he was addressing just a handful of people who have the ability to harm numerous people. He requested that they leave the parties until after the virus has ended and follow the coronavirus regulations for now. The speech made by the Health Minister came just around the time the Police revealed information about some illegal incidents that they were forced to break up on Thursday night.
