On Sunday evening, serious cases of the coronavirus in the State of Israel topped 100. This is a record-high number, which has not been witnessed in the country since the 1st of May.
As per the data released by the Health Ministry, no less than 101 patients in Israel are in hospice, due to their serious conditions after contracting the deadly disease. On Friday, this figure was standing at 86. The update by the ministry informed that serious cases of the coronavirus have not exceeded 100 in over three months. On the 1st of May, the total number of people in serious condition was 103. Ever since then, the figure was declining steadily. In the middle of the month of June, however, this number started to tick upwards once again.
In the last ten days alone, the number of people being hospitalized due to the seriousness of their condition has doubled. On the other hand, it is not even close to the peak witnessed at the time of the third wave of the country in the month of January. At the time, more than 1,100 serious patients were receiving treatment in medical facilities. During the fall, when the second wave of the deadly disease had taken over the country, serious cases were at an all-time high of 850, specifically in the month of October.
Earlier in the month, the coronavirus cabinet got together and decided that new restrictions to deal with the virus will only be instated in the country when the number of serious cases rise significantly. On Sunday, the cabinet held another meeting in which the Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Bennett, promised that he will not institute new lockdowns. Instead, he said, he will impose greater fines and ensure enforcement where getting vaccinated and wearing masks is concerned.
On Sunday evening, it was informed that there were almost 11,000 active cases of the coronavirus in the country. On the 1st of July, in contrast, the country had registered a total of 1,990 active cases. As of now, there are 201 patients in hospice due to their deteriorating conditions after contracting the deadly disease. 19 patients have been placed on ventilators, whereas 24 are in critical condition. In the month of July, 29 people have lost their lives because of the coronavirus, whereas only 9 people died in the month of June.
A report was published last week, which revealed that people becoming seriously ill in the current wave of the coronavirus are discharged from the hospital in a shorter number of days, as compared to patients with similar conditions in the last three waves.
Figures presented by the Health Ministry for the time between June 20th and July 17th indicate that the coronavirus vaccine has proved to be only 39% effective when it comes to preventing transmission. But it is still over 91% effective at providing protection against severe cases.
